All Aboard! Just Believe...Polar Express Day

Thank you to all the parent volunteers who made hot chocolate and cleaned all the cups
so we could have a wonderful taste of the Polar Express as Mrs. Kidd read the story!
Then Mr. O'Reilly led us in the song "Believe" - a great way to finish off the day!

We also did a desk clean so our backpacks are pretty full! Thank you for helping us
sort through all our papers and getting right to the very bottom...

We had library today so we have some new books to read over the holidays!

We played a game of ringette with 4 teams and offense and defense. We are getting the
hang of passing and stick handling!

TOMORROW IS FRESH AIR FRIDAY - we are planning to go for a Winter Walk with our
Big Buddies in Room 6. Thanks for dressing warm! Have a wonderful break everyone!

Keep reading and observing the beauty all around us. See you in January 7, 2018!

Wednesday, December 19th

From our spirit committee:
We are down to the final stretch!  Tomorrow is our last spirit day before Christmas and we have a fun day planned. :)  Dress up in your Christmas sweaters or red and green.  Our lovely parent volunteers will be serving hot chocolate in the afternoon and at 2:45pm, we would ask all the classrooms to meet in the learning commons to hear our wonderful Mrs. Kidd read the Polar Express.

Yesterday we decorated our baubles with stars and sequins and "mod podge" We are bringing them home today!

Today Birdy and Emmaline made a book called The Scary School - part one - written by Emmaline and illustrated by Birdy.

We are playing ringette - we worked on strategies and skills like passing and protecting the ring.

For writing time, we worked on our "Prairie book" - I wrote about prairie chickens and cold wind.

Today for math centres, I was at opti-design...my favourite one so far!

Today we had caroling in the learning commons - we sang Six White Boomers. Ask me which song was my favorite.

Today we had music - ask me what we did.

Friday is our last Fresh Air Friday of the year - we are planning to go for a winter walk with our Big Buddies - remember to dress for the weather! We are done at the regular 12:15 pm time.

We wrote a class list of names, so check the backpacks if you are writing cards.

A reminder to help us clean out our backpacks on Thursday - just in case we have a library book or note from school hidden down deep!

We can't wait until Christmas and holidays! Saturday, December 22nd - Sunday, January 6th.

Monday 17 December 2018

Monday, December 18th

Today we shared in carpet connection time, we shared what we did on our weekend OR for the holidays, I hope...then we wrote in our journals.

After recess, we did a "wonder word" with the letters a, i, o, y, s, d, l, h...we made so many little words! Ask me what the "wonder word" was or try and solve it with me. How many words can you find?

Math centres were fun - we have to remember to record our patterns after we explore for awhile. Ask me which centre I was working at today.

Mrs. Armour read the story The Dust Bowl by David Booth. Ask me the four things the farmers need to have a good crop!

Then we divided our paper into four and sketched one prairie picture to practice our illustrations for our If You're Not from the Prairie book.

We will work on Ringette skills in gym this week.

Ask me what we did in Music.

Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday please join us for CAROLING in the Learning Commons from 9 - 9:30 am. Wear your festive hats!

Thursday is Polar Express theme for spirit day! We will read the story on Wednesday and brainstorm some ideas. I think I heard something about hot chocolate!

Fresh Air Friday - Insect Survival Game

Today we played the insect survival game outside! Ask me what H/O/C stands
for and which insect I was. Ask me if I had to hunt for food or just look for
other "insects". Which insect do you think had to work the hardest to survive?

We had inside recess, then worked some more on our decoration and painting.

We had some free choice time before finishing the day with Mrs. Armour
reading aloud from Bowser the Hound. We are hoping Bowser will find his
way home before Christmas break!

NEXT WEEK: Caroling in the learning commons on TUE/WED/THU from
9-9:30 am. All are welcome to come and join our sing-a-along! We do have
our last Fresh Air Friday on Dec. 21st. Please let Mrs. Armour or the office
know if you will be leaving early for the holidays!

Visit from Constable Rich

We were so excited to have Constable Rich come to The Clubhouse to visit
today...ask me what some of his "just in case" things that he wears are and
take a look at the emotions page we are bringing home to discuss how we
can learn good strategies of staying in control and making good choices!

See you tomorrow for "FESTIVE EVENING" from 6-8pm. We can dress
Festive during the day for Spirit day too - red, green, santa, elf reindeer hats...

We started something special today that we will be bringing home next week to help
decorate our own tree.

Our Clubhouse is filling up with snowflakes!! Here are a couple cool things
Roman, Birdy and Graham built.

Treat Day Tuesday and Catch up!

Hello all and apologies for the absence of the blog in the last while - the flu knocked us all for a loop. We are all ready for the holidays, but have a few more fun days of learning first...! Here is what The Clubhouse is up to! Thank you so much for supporting your child in their discoveries!

TUESDAY: Thank you for sending in all the yummy treats! Thank you to all those who helped set up and sell at recess today! There are still some to buy, so they will put them out tomorrow as well if you want to send another quarter.

New Festive Centres: we skipped guided reading today to introduce our new festive centres. Snowflake making and 3D Tree decorating give us good "fine motor" practice and help our hands and fingers get stronger!
Card making and poetry keep us working on our printing and creative writing skills.
Graph paper and colour by number give us some number and pattern practice!
And well, colouring is sure fun! Ask me which centres I'm looking forward to!

New Math Centres: to wrap up our patterning unit, we have five centres to discover - music and action patterns, bead making, wooden shape patterns, "opti-design" sheets, name and number patterns using 100 charts. This will show our learning by using all our knowledge about patterning in different ways.

If You're Not From the Prairie Books: Inspired by the book by David Bouchard, we are excited to start brainstorming our ideas for our own "Prairie Books". Today we listened and watched the video of the book online to refresh our memory of how the pattern of the poem sounds like. We then made a list of "Prairie nouns" and "Prairie adjectives/describing words" (sun - hot, yellow, blazing. wind - strong, blow-you-down....)
If you're not from the prairie you don't know the _______, you can't know the ______.
Ask me if I can remember some of my words.
We will be both author and illustrator and will be working on our books for awhile. If you or a grandparent grew up on the prairie - talk about what you remember.

WEDNESDAY: Constable Rich will be coming to our class for a visit from 9:30-10:30 - we have met Constable Rich during our practice lockdowns and are looking forward to getting to know him better.

THURSDAY: Spirit Day - wear something "festive" red, green, elf/santa hats...
FESTIVE EVENING 6-8 pm We are looking forward to spending time with our families and with each other! Mr. O'Reilly has requested students dress up nice to perform Mr. Grinch. Please find something you have at home - we do not want you to think you need to go shopping. Some of us thought dressing up like a "who from whoville" would be fun too!

Fill-A-Sock Box - to think about those who are less fortunate than us, thank you for bringing in new, toiletries to "fill a sock" Travel size lotion, shampoo, toothpaste, band-aids, transit tickets, gum are just a few ideas! THANK YOU!!

Tuesday 4 December 2018

Tuesday, December 5th

We are finishing up our Pattern palooza! Ask me what some of my patterns are. If we are done, we can play race to 100 (addition) or race to 1(subtraction) or some other math games.

We are learning a lot about the Prairie! Ask me about the Landscape, Climate, Animals, Buildings (what is that building that starts with a "q"?) Culture...we listened to a little mini version of "Little House on the Prairie" today...even though that takes place in the United States...the prairie is a lot the same!

We are finishing up our Diorama details - because we are sharing with our Big Buddies in the Learning Commons on Thursday from 2-3 pm. As soon as Mrs. Armour finishes checking them all we can bring them home - next week!.

In gym we are starting our hockey and ringette.

Oh yes and Mrs. Boyer had her baby - little Claire Elizabeth was born last Thursday, November 29th. Mom and baby are both doing well and we are all very excited!

We are practicing "Mr. Grinch" for our Festive Evening, Thursday, December 13th 6-8 pm - check out the link Mrs. Armour posted to practice. Watch for those rests. Ask me what the rhyming words are!

Spirit day is this Thursday. Come dress in your favorite pajamas!

Non-instructional day on Friday, December 7th.
