Tuesday, December 17th

On Monday, it was Polar Express day! It was fun to see all the festive pj's!

We did "rounding" in Math with numbers 30, 40, 50 and all the way to the "challenge level" of 700, 800, 900! We are reviewing place value and are still working on our "daily warm up" word problems.

Mrs. Armour read "How the Grinch stole Christmas" and then we made a chart to see how many juicy words Dr. Seuss used and if we could find all the when/what/where/who/why/how to summarize. We will also try to find all the rhyming words!

We are polishing up our stories this week and sharing with each other to get some feedback and asking questions to make sure we have all the when/what/where/who/why/how using neat writing and lots of juicy words and even a couple of similes! Ask me if I'm done or still need to work hard tomorrow!

We are reviewing our "rocks and minerals" by using our song, plus the information we have gathered over the last weeks. We will do a "science check" tomorrow using a computer quiz.Ask me if I'm ready and how many facts I can remember about the 3 types of rocks!

In gym, we got to have a snowball fight using soft socks! It was lots of fun with mats up for barriers.

We got to hear Mrs. Kidd read 2 stories yesterday! During Library, she finished reading "Aunty Claus" in which Sofie learned that it is better to give than receive! Then during the last part of the day, the Polar Express train came to collect the whole school and we met in the gym where Mrs. Kidd read the story. We even had hot chocolate! THANKS TO ALL THE PARENTS who volunteered to make it, hand it out and especially clean up! We appreciate you!

We had our first gathering for CAROLING this morning from 9:00-9:30 in the Learning Commons. All are welcome to join us!

Thursday is the last day for students. Teachers are here Friday for clean up and meetings. School starts up again next year January 6th.

THANK YOU for all of your generosity to me, Mrs. Armour. Thank you for your partnership and support in learning for your children! Have yourself a Merry little Christmas/Hanukkah/winter holiday! Relax, read and get outside to enjoy our beautiful country!

Snowshoeing and "Ketchup" Fresh Air Friday plus Field Trip Pictures!

It was very snowy on Wednesday for our field trip to Glenbow Museum, but with a little delay because of the traffic - we made it safe and sound. THANK YOU to all our rock star volunteer parents for coming in this busy season! Enjoy the pictures and ask us about the details!

New about the week after the pictures...keep reading!

Today we had Big Buddies. They shared their math games they had made. Then we had "Ketchup and Pickles".

We went snowshoeing around the school field. Our big buddies helped. Some of our boots fell off but it was so much fun!

Math - we are doing rounding numbers. Rounding up (rocket ship) numbers are 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 and rounding down (falling back) numbers are 1, 2, 3, and 4.

Most of us finished writing our Christmas story, adding illustrations and similes. It was as busy as Santa's workshop!

Social Studies - we all picked a "maverick" person from Calgary's history and made a slideshow. Some of the mavericks we did were Tom Three Persons, James Mcleod, Peter Lougheed, Mother Mary Greene, Eric Harvey, and Frederick McCall. Ask me who I chose and some facts about them!

Two of our wonder words this week were "thumbs" and "addition". How many little words can you make?

We did such a great job with our "Rocks All Around the Christmas Tree" song for Festive Evening! Thanks to all who volunteered to make it such a special night!

Monday December 16th - Polar Express Day! brought to you by the Spirit Club. Please come in your festive pj's, or sweater or Dr. Coffin t-shirt or hoodie.
