Yesterday, we had a real live geologist in our school - thank you to Mr. Dufresne who came and showed us some really cool samples of rocks, minerals and fossils and talked about how fun it is to be a geologist and how many different kinds of geologists there are. We discussed how to sort rocks by their colour, lustre, texture and type. Ask me what I thought was the coolest fact!
Tomorrow is another Author and Artist visit! Local Calgarians author Jack Jax and artist Henry Hama will be coming to our very own Dr. E.W. Coffin to do a reading of their new book Kidsburgh Chronicles: A Christmas Adventure! Order forms are coming home today.
Today we started our "Roll-a-Christmas Story" by using a similar planning sheet as we had for our Spooky Story. Ask me if I used the dice or created my own characters, setting, obstacle/conflict/plot/adventure.
Our Wonder Word letters today were i, c, k, r, s, t - how many little 2, 3, 4, 5 letter words can you make? Can you figure out the "wonder word?" using all 6 letters?
In Math, our daily warm up questions are introducing us to fractions (What fraction of Santa's reindeers have a red, shiny nose?) Mrs. Polski reminded us a good way to remember the line of a fraction is when you see it, say, "out of" (so 1/2 means one out of two!)
We also discussed "rounding" to the nearest 10. If the number has a 1-4 in the ones spot, we round "down"(33 to 30), if the number has a 5-9 in the ones spot, we round "up" (35 to 40). This helps us ESTIMATE ( a good guess) with "friendly" numbers.
Our field trip to Glenbow is on Wednesday, December 11th. It will be for the whole day (9:00-2:30pm and we will be going on our own, so will need 4-5 volunteers). The forms are coming home tomorrow. IF you are available to volunteer let Mrs. Armour know and she will send home those forms as well.
I know it's a quick turn around, but THANK YOU for sending the forms back by FRIDAY, December 6th.
In Music, we are starting to practice our "rock song" for FESTIVE EVENING, which will be Thursday, December 12th. Save the date!
