After Guided reading and poetry centres, the grade twos finished typing the "story of my name" We will all glue our stories onto coloured paper tomorrow and you will be able to read these under our portraits at Parent Conferences on Thursday, November 22nd and Friday November 23rd. You can sign up starting this Saturday.
If we were done, we practiced spelling the most used words from the Word Wall - we used white boards and markers and could do this with a buddy.
Grade ones printed the letter "J" and "j" today.
Thanks to Green group who is helping with Blog this week - Georgia, Kipling, Anya, Colin and Abel. They are the busy group who helps with doorbell, key card, calendar, home reading and lunch bins and door holders!
Today in Math we did more patterns and we could have the choice of using lego, cubes, or letter tiles.
We tried to trick our partners by making something wrong in our pattern and seeing if our friend could spot it. Ask me what some of my patterns were!
After lunch we met all together in Room 2 (now Ms. Yoon's room) to discuss our next steps for our bug project. We will be creating a diorama for our arthropod first using paper to show our habitat. We are hoping to have a "Arthropod Fair" to display so all of the school and parents can come and hear what we've learned as Entomologists and experts on our bug. We will let you know when we have a date for this!
We had a fire drill today! It was chilly and a bit slippery, but Mrs. Polski reminded us we have to practice in all different kinds of weather.
Today we had gym outside. It was like tennis but we used "wiffle balls" or balls with holes in them. It was tricky, but we are doing well!
THURSDAY is FUN LUNCH and LIBRARY (and...Georgia's birthday:)
Coming up next month - DECEMBER 11TH is our TREAT DAY. So we need lots of volunteers to be thinking of some treats (nut free please) to sell at recess. The Clubhouse gets to keep the money we raise - so we will brainstorm what we would like. Thanks for planning for this next month!

Monday
Today was Journals - if we finished before recess, we were practicing our editing...looking for cApiTals in the miDDle of ouR woRDs, making sure we had a period at the end of our sentences (not just the end of a line). We tried to add a colour word in our sentence to make it more interesting. Graham added blue when writing about a dinosaur that he built! Ask me what I wrote about in my journal today.
In math we practiced making patterns and explaining what the UNIT is - the part that repeats - and trying to describe our pattern in a different way.
So if we did a blue, red, yellow cube pattern - we could also describe it as a ABC or a 123 pattern! Then we had a partner and we tried to trick them with a pattern that was mixed up to see if they could find the problem! Ask me what patterns I made and what patterns I can find at home and describe them.
For science if we are finished our research, we made folding booklets to show our habitat, diet, survival and interesting facts about our bug. Tomorrow we will meet together with Room 1/2 to find out how we will show our learning in a creative way with paper and plasticine! Ask me what I worked on today for science and what I will be working on tomorrow.
We played badminton again in gym and practiced our underhand and overhand shots with the birdie.
Did you know...The "father" of badminton is generally accepted to be the Duke of Beaufort in Gloucestershire, now called Avon, in England. The Duke's residence called Badminton House on Badminton estate, thus became the name of the game.
In Music we practiced for the CBC Music contest. Everyone is doing very good.
THURSDAY is FUN LUNCH if you ordered it.

Eric Carle discusses The Artist Who Painted A Blue Horse
Today we did Poppy Art inspired by Eric Carle(Brown bear, Brown bear, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, The Artist Who Painted a Blue Horse) Check out this video to see him creating
some art and talking about how we use our imagination to create beautiful art!
We also used real badminton rackets and "birdies" in gym - grade ones on one side, grade twos on the other side. Wow! We made the birdies go so high - and over the net! I think all the practice with the "puff balls" helped.
We played "Race to 100" if we finished our Poppy Art before lunch. Ask me how to play if you don't know.
If we were finished our "interesting facts" for our arthropod, some of us got to watch some videos on the ipad about our bug!
For Music, we also made Poppies with Mr. O to get ready for the assembly. Ask me how I made these poppies.
At the end of Music, we all went to Room 6 and surprised Mr. Pedenko by singing Happy Birthday! It seemed very exciting for him:)
TOMORROW IS LIBRARY DAY.
NEXT THURSDAY IS FUN LUNCH DAY - order by this Friday if you would like Mucho Burrito.
Thanks for sending in FOOD for the food bank box and if you would like to contribute to the Poppy Fund - any change you might have lying around the house.
Here are some of our poems we created.
Here are some of our In Flanders Fields poems we copied out and decorated.

Tuesday - snow and pattern pictures!
Thanks to Red group for helping with Blog this week!
Happy Birthday to Christopher today!
Today we did "poppy writing" The grade ones copied one page from In Flanders Fields and the grade twos are copying the whole poem! It was okay.
We searched for patterns in our clubhouse today for math. Did you know that patterns in Nature are usually a branch, spiral or layer pattern? Ask me if I can think of any examples? Ask me how many times the pattern needs to repeat. Ask me what patterns I found!
Today the grade ones did Mathletics and the grade twos discussed their Bug Research with Mrs. Armour at the carpet. We read from books and guessed where the facts best fit -
Habitat (Where do I live?)
Diet(What do I eat?)
Survival(How do I live and not die?)
Interesting Facts(Did you know?).
In gym, we practised our "racket and ball" skills today with "puff balls" underhand and overhand and then played "Don't throw your junk in my backyard"
It was cold today! Thanks for dressing so warm with mitts, hats, boots, snow pants and coats so we can have fun outside!
RETAKES are Thursday. REMEMBRANCE DAY assembly Friday at 10:45AM. If you are in Scouts or Girl Guides you can wear your uniform. Parents welcome.
FOOD BANK COLLECTION until next Tuesday. THANK YOU for those who donated today! We are competing for the SOUPER CAN! :) POPPY collection until Friday.

Monday, November 5th
Journals - ask me if my picture showed details, colour and filled my whole page! Ask me what I wrote about and if I answered the questions, "WHAT did you do?" "WHO was with you?" "WHERE did you go?" Ask me if I did any edits (Capitals, periods, word wall for spelling...)
Guided Reading - ask me what my new book this week is about? Ask me if it is a fiction or non-fiction book and how do I know?
Grade 2's - Literacy Roles - ask me what a CONNECTOR/WORD WIZARD/QUESTIONER/SUMMARIZER/ILLUSTRATOR listens for in a story and writes down. We are starting to read an old Beatrix Potter story - The Tailor of Gloucester to discover how to practice these when we read.
Math - ask me how I know if something is a pattern. Ask me to see if I can find 3 patterns at home tonight! Check out this website for some cool pictures of patterns...

Science - ask me about the way my bug survives...what special parts does it have to help it live or escape predators or trick prey?
A big thanks to Kipling for sharing his slug today - check out his survival skill of camouflage!
A big thanks to Roman's mom who made us all little crocheted poppies to wear - so special!
We will practice the poem that came with it to say as a class - here it is if you want to practice at home too!
Poppy, poppy what do you say?
Wear me on Remembrance Day.
Poppy, poppy what do you tell?
Many soldiers in battle fell.
Poppy, poppy what should we know?
That peace on earth should
grow, grow, grow!

Today we had Library - Mrs. Kidd reminded us that there is a brand new Library downtown that's opening today and has lots of fun stuff to do!
Today if we were finished 2 categories of our bug research and our own graphs, we had free choice after gym.
Today we practiced volleyball - we were inside with 2 big nets! Ask me about the game we played. We had so much fun because the ball went so high!!
Homework for sometime in the next few days - please practice logging in to Mathletics at home so we can use all our time next week for our math skills - thank you! Check our backpack for our orange or red "computer cards" with all our information for Mathletics and RAZ kids.
Mrs. Armour is away tomorrow. Mrs. Bigelow will be here as guest teacher. Dress warm as will we be outside for Fresh Air Friday.
A lot of us have been sick over the last couple of weeks. Please remind us to drink lots of water and get to bed early after reading us a story:)
