(Very!) Fresh Air Friday, November 29th
We are continuing to practice our hockey and ringette skills in gym - we are using the coloured lines
to help us warm up with the puck or the ring and learning about defense and offense. When we have
only one person to focus on as our "opponent" it helps us to spread out and look for someone to pass to instead of "ganging up" on the puck/ring. We will continue this next week!
We did a fun "hands on" demonstration of the rock cycle using Starburst Candy!
First we formed the 3 pieces together (without the rushing river!) and made
a sedimentary-like rock, then we added heat and pressure and they transformed
into metamorphic-like rock, Mrs. Armour then showed us what happened when she
added extreme heat (the microwave for 30 seconds - not quite like a volcanoe!)
It was like molten lava that hardened like a igneous-type rock. Check out these
pictures...
Today we had Big Buddies. They shared their first draft of their "Battle Bunny
Books" and we shared our Place Value Circles or our stories. Then some of us
played chess!
We read the story Snowflake Bentley Ask me about it!
Then we went outside and investigated snow crystals...we found out when
it's cold (-17C!) and dry, the crystals and flakes are different from when it's
warmer and wetter! We used black cardboard that we put outside for a few
minutes so the snow wouldn't melt and so we could see the snow
more easily!
Monday: Library
GLENBOW FIELD TRIP (correction on the date!) Wednesday, December 11th.
We need volunteers, so thanks for letting Mrs. Armour know if you can come and
investigate Rocks and Minerals and discover the pioneering men and women who first settled the West and began building our great city ... Calgary!
We will leave the school at 9AM and be back by 2:30PM.
