Tuesday, October 1st Update

Yesterday and today we had tons of fun in the snow! Thank you for sending us with all our snow gear, so we can stay warm and play! An extra pair of socks/sweats to keep in our backpack always comes in handy just in case we get wet.

Yesterday was also Orange Shirt Day. During writing we wrote the "Acknowlegement of the Land" to remember and recognize the Indigenous people and culture. Did you know that "Oki" is how the Blackfoot people say "hello" and they call themselves, "Niitsitapi"?

We are learning to use dictionaries! After finding all the mistake words in the Daily Warm Up sentence, we are now trying to find how to spell each correctly.

Check out our Science Art - Silhouette Trees - Sunrise/Sunset. Ask me the steps and what I still need to complete.

All the "goal portraits" should have come home today, thanks for checking backpacks!

Thank you to Aadhya who presented her "Paw Patrol" slide show she researched and created at home. Very interesting and fun!

Check out our mixed up sentences we had to fix for writing and a couple of our Math problems as we continue to learn different strategies.

Did you know a multiplication operation sentence can be described in words to help us remember how to solve it?
So for 4 X 3 = ? we can say that means, Four groups of Three and then draw it out or do mental math.
We are learning that division is like the opposite of multiplication. So if 4 X 3 = 12 then we know that 12 divided by 3 equals 4. We are using blocks and cards to practice "seeing" the math.

Next week, we will start our Literacy centres/Daily 5 (Word work, Work on writing, Listen to reading, Read to someone, Read to self). Today Mrs. Armour explained each of the tubs.
We will be practicing vowel sounds, how to put sentences together and story writing.

REMINDERS:
To assist with our "Listen to reading" centre starting next week and to keep our germs to ourselves, please send in an inexpensive pair of headphones for your student to keep in a baggie in their desk. Please email Mrs. Armour if you have any questions or concerns.

No Run Club tomorrow because of all the snow. Stay tuned next week!

Assembly on Wednesday - Kindergarten will be in charge!
