Fresh Air Friday - Arctic games!

What a great day for Arctic games! A big THANK YOU to the grade 5/6's that helped us run the events.

We watched a video with Rick Mercer showing us a few of the traditional winter games - I will post a link to one of them.

We bundled up and headed outside to try 8 different events! Snow shoeing, High Kick, Harpoon throw, Seal race, Stick and Bone, Snow building, Running Jump and Curling.
Ask me what events I tried and which was the most challenging and the most fun!

We did a temperature activity where we had to try and guess which temperature went with what event. Did you know that 0 degrees celsius is when water freezes, 37 degrees celsius is normal body temperature and 15 000 000 degrees celsius is the centre of the sun??? What other temperatures do you know?
This week we kept track of the temperature -
Tuesday was -1C in the morning and dropped to -8C in the afternoon
Wednesday was -5C
Thursday was -17C
Friday was -5C
Does it make a difference in temperature if the sun is shining or the wind is blowing?

Have a great weekend!
