Tuesday, February 19th - 100 days of school!

Wow! It almost felt like Spring today! We took the temperature in the morning and it was -8C and then at lunch, it had gone up to -1C. It was so nice to go outside for recess and lunch and hard to come back inside. Some of us were wondering why it is so hard to see in the classroom after we have been out in the sun and the snow - maybe someone would like to research that question and find out!

Another challenge Mrs Armour (yes! I'm back in the Clubhouse! THANK YOU for all your support, thoughts, cards, valentines waiting for me - plus a huge welcome back poster the students have all signed - thanks to Mrs Allen for her super work and committing to the Clubhouse for the whole time I was away ) gave us was an experiment. Would you help us find a few things and carry out this experiment? We will try and do it at school on Fresh Air Friday but thought it would be fun to try at home first. Being a scientist is all about testing, observing, repeating and recording.

3 containers
3 rocks or pucks (something with a flat bottom that will slide)
A patch of ice (maybe a sidewalk that hasn't been quite shovelled)
An old towel or paper towel

Step One: Fill one container with hot water, one with room temperature water, one with ice water.
Step Two: Place a rock/puck in each container
Step Three: Wait a few minutes (you could practice counting by 2's/5's/10's!)
Step Four: Take out the rocks/pucks and dry with the towel
Step Five: Place the rocks/pucks in a line on the ice
Step Six: Push them forward
Step Seven: Observe - which one goes the furthest/fastest?
Step Eight: Think - what do I think happened?

Today Kindergarten was celebrating 100 days of school!! We brainstormed different questions we could ask our friends and then went to the Library to see all of their cool "100" projects. Ask me what some of them looked like.

We played a new RACE to 100 game in Math - ask me the rules and what my group's "magic number" was that we had to roll!

We had GYMNASTICS today - ask me my favourite station and 2 rules we need to remember.

Wednesday is FUN LUNCH day and students from Simon Fraser are coming to volunteer at Dr Coffin.

Thursday is LIBRARY and CLAY 4 Kids - we are so excited to work on a new art project!
We hope you can all come to our MATH NIGHT from 6-7PM to see some of our math learning and games.

Our "Ice Village" we made on Wednesday. We will be observing and recording what happens when the temperature gets warmer and colder. Ask me what I noticed today.

Here we are "racing to 100"
