Welcome April!

This week during our gym time we are creating our own "rhythm dance"
The Inuit use drums. We are using our bodies to create sound. We are working
in groups. We will practice Tuesday and Wednesday and be ready to perform
for our classmates on Thursday. We watched this video to give us some ideas.

At Carpet Connection time we shared three things we did during Spring Break.
We practiced saying what we would write in our journals to help us remember.
Grade ones this is a challenge to practice writing more. Grade twos, your
challenge is to add more details to the middle sentences.

My three favorite things I did during Spring Break were hiking, swimming and
watching a movie. (Hamburger bun/opening sentence)
First, my family went for a hike to Banff. (ketchup/detail)
Next, I went swimming with my cousins. (pickles/detail)
Then, my friend and I watched the movie Christopher Robin. (cheese/detail)
My Spring Break was so fun! (Hamburger bun/closing sentence)

In Word Work we will be learning the parts of a sentence. Noun, verb and adjective.
Can you find the noun, verb and adjective in this sentence?
Red planes fly.
How many other sentences can you make with nouns, verbs, adjectives?

In Math we have a INUKSUK CHALLENGE for the next while.
Using paper here is our challenge:
1. Our Inuksuk has to be as tall as the tallest person in our group.
2. It has to be no wider than the shortest person in our group.
3. No "rock" can be longer than the tallest person's arm.
4. We must use at least 6 "rocks" and no more than 12.
Ask me how many different kinds/uses the Inuit have for Inuksuks.

In Science we will continue to think about Insulators. Today we discussed everyday insulators around us like water bottles, lunch kits, clothes, coats, boots and even fibreglass insulation for our walls (the itchy stuff you need gloves for!).
Our challenge will be creating an insulator for our "Artic buddy" (a water bottle). It will have to pass the cold/warm and water test. You can look around your house and recycling and IF you have extra supplies at home you would like to bring in, please do. If not, that's okay! We will have plenty of supplies here at school as well (including the water bottles).  Remember, it is just to insulate a regular size plastic water bottle. We will be working in groups.

It is Jared's share day tomorrow.

Save the date for the On-line safety parent night on April 23 presented by the
Calgary Police Service.
