Wednesday - Inuksuit and Arctic Buddy Challenge

Did you know that more than one Inuksuk are called Inuksuit?

Did you know that serpentine rock is more common to use for carving Inuit art than soapstone?

Ask me how many types of Inuksuit I can name and what purpose they are used for.

This morning we drew more inuksuit to research all the different kinds. Some of us drew all of them except the three-rocked inuksuk. There was green and white paper we could use. Ask me what inuksuk I drew and labeled.

We measured and drew up our plans and started "digging up our rocks from the quarry" (cutting out our pieces of paper-rocks) today. We need at least 6 and no more than 12 rocks. Ask me which Inuksuk our group is creating.

Challenge Math question: If there are 5 people in my group and everyone wants to cut out the same amount and we need to cut out 20 rocks, how many rocks can each person cut out?

Think: If I needed to measure someone's arm and I didn't have a measuring tape or ruler, what else could I use that might work?

We started to plan how we will insulate our "Arctic Buddy" (a water bottle). In our groups, we discussed which materials we would use and wrote down our hypothesis starting with this question - "Can we keep our Arctic Buddy warm and dry?"

Today we had music and played our recorders.

WELCOME TO SION (pronounced Shawn/Sean) and SARAH. We miss Kashia and Birdy who have moved, but now have two new grade 2 friends in the Clubhouse!
