Thursday - Salute!

Today we learned a new math game called, "Salute!" All you need is a deck of cards. You can play with 2 - 4 people. If you have 3 or 4 people, choose one person to be the "general" (and switch every turn). If only have 2 people, you don't need a "general"

Start with a pile of cards in the middle (use only the number cards you want 1- 5 or 1 - 10 Ace being 1, or all the face cards being 10, or for a challenge Jack being 11, Queen being 12, King being 13!)

2 people take a card and without looking at it, put it on their own forehead (a salute), then the general looks at both cards and says, "Altogether your cards add up to...." Whoever looks at the other person's card and figures out what their card is first wins those cards and someone else takes the turn to be general.

There are a lot of variations to this game so please ask or email if you want more clarification! Playing cards are a great, fun way to practice number facts because you can always find easier or more challenging ways to add, subtract, multiply and divide. You can even give clues by saying "more than..." or "less than..."

It was Library day today.

We had gym outside and ran a big "Terry Fox" lap! We practiced with frisbees.

If we were finished our Arctic Paper Bag book, we could work on our Chromebooks. Ask me if I did writing, math, or reading games!
